  Izumi Province - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Izumi (和泉国; -no kuni) or Senshu (泉州 senshū) was a province of Japan, which today composes the south-western part of Osaka Prefecture (not including the city of Osaka itself).
The ancient capital was probably in the modern suburb of Izumi.
Izumi included the large seaport of Sakai, and was usually held by whoever ruled Osaka Castle and Settsu Province.

Like her contemporary Murasaki Shikibu, Izumi Shikibu (?976-?) served at the court of Fujiwara no Akiko (藤原彰子)(Shôshi).
Also like her, we know only the barest details of Izumi Shikibu's life, not even her real name (Izumi derives from the fact that her husband, Tachibana no Michisada, was governor of Izumi province).
In 999, Michisada was appointed Governor of Izumi, and Shikibu accompanied him to the provinces on his posting.

The dresses of the dancers are made after the manners of the Temmeiepoch (100 years ago) especially after a famous picture, the thesis of which is "a lively scene of a village with the songs of fishery" written by Utamaro Hishikawa, one of the most noted experts in "ukiyoe" - a genre picture.
The songs here sung are that of a group-dance produced by the province of Izumi.
