MacLean married Gwendolyn Esther Burwash, of Saskatoon on Oct. 29, 1952 and the couple produced two daughters: Sarah Jean and Mary Esther, and two sons: Allan Duart and Robert Angus.
MacLean served in the R.C.A.F. (Reserve) from 1939 to 1947 where he commanded Test and Development Establishment, from 1943-45 and Missing Research and Enquiry Unit, Europe, from 1945 to 1947 with rank of Wing Commander.
MacLean was sworn in as Premier on May 3, 1979 and retired as Premier of P.E.I., Nov. 17, 1981, but retained seat in P.E.I. Legislature as Assemblyman for 4th Queens.

He managed to enter the house by winning a by-election in 1975 and served in the provincial cabinet once the Tories were elected to government in 1979.
In 1981 he won the PC leadership convention held to choose a successor to Premier J.

MacLean served in the cabinet of Prime Minister John George Diefenbaker as Minister of Fisheries from 1957 until the government's defeat in the 1963 Canadian election.
In 1976, MacLean was persuaded to leave federal politics and take the leadership of the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party which had languished in opposition for a decade.
MacLean led the party to victory in 1979 and formed a government that emphasised community life, banned new shopping malls and cancelled the province's participation in a project to build a nuclear reactor.

Jr., Pembroke, and the late Allan D.; mother-in-law of Alexis "Lucky", Janice, Louise, Maria and Dan; preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers; also survived by 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
MacLEAN, James Leo - 81, 125 Inglis St., and a lifelong resident of Ashby died December 28, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

The Hector MacLean Distinguished Professorship in Cancer Research was established at the UNC-CH Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center by MacLean and the Southern National Corp. upon his retirement as chairman of the Lumberton-based banking corporation in 1990.
MacLean is a former state senator and former mayor of Lumberton.
Hector MacLean was born in Baltimore in 1920.

J. Angus MacLean, a long-time member of the House and a former premier of P.E.I., died yesterday.
Prior to his tour of provincial duty, Angus was one of the members of parliament for the dual riding of Queens in Prince Edward Island, which became the riding of Malpeque in 1966.
During that period Angus was Minister of Fisheries from 1957 to 1963.

The “2+2 degree” initiative involves students spending two years at Angus College to gain their Higher National Diploma, followed by a further two years at RGU for those wishing to progress to a degree, explained Mr.
Degree Link Courses on offer from RGU via the Angus College route are in the fields of business and management, economics, hospitality & tourism, computing and social science.

With reference to Article 5 of the minute of meeting of this Committee of 19 August 1999, there was submitted Report No 973/99 by the Chief Executive which detailed the presence of Angus Council and various companies and organisations from the Angus area at Offshore Europe 1999.
The event had attracted over 1,800 exhibiting companies from approximately 40 countries and the various Angus companies and organisations who had been represented had stressed that, in their view, the event had proved to be very worthwhile in establishing new contacts and gaining useful publicity.
The financial contribution of £4,000 from Angus Council was a draft figure at this stage, and would enable leverage of more substantial funds.

Angus Chisholm's playing is the standard all Cape Breton fiddling is measured by.
The accompaniment for this session was provided by Angus' niece Maybelle Chisholm (Doyle) on piano and Mickey McIntyre on guitar (all of side one features Bess Sidall MacDonald on piano, and the first two tracks of this side feature Elizabeth Mellett).
Tea Gardens was composed by Angus as he was waiting for a bus in front of a Chinese place by that name in Sydney; he wrote down enough of it on the bus going home so that he could remember and sort it out later.

MacLean was quickly chosen as his successor, only a few weeks before Fisher Hall was destroyed by fire.
The faculty during this period consisted of MacLean, Kapp, Rodehaver, and Pierce, the latter two leaving in 1955, plus Robert Berg Tapp, professor of theology, 1952-60; Morton Scott Enslin, professor of Biblical languages and literature, 1955-65; and Robert LeRoy Cope, professor of religious education, 1957-60.
In 1960 MacLean retired to accept a call to be minister of religious education at the First Unitarian Church of Cleveland at Shaker Heights.

Janet is a well regarded accompanist on the island (as a young girl Joe MacLean whisked her off to Halifax to help record his hard to find 'white album').
She is also as friendly a person as one could possibly meet and has helped immensely on this record as well as our other projects (the 'Fr Francis Cameron' of the tune is her brother and can be heard accompanied by Janet on the Rounder CD mentioned below).
Gordon MacLean (no known kinship to Joe Peter) lives somewhat farther afield (in Sugar Camp, near Port Hawksbury) but will often play with Joe Peter at the ceilidhs around Iona (Gordon is originally from MacKay’s Point).

ANGUS Maclean did Team Southampton proud by finishing top Briton in Sunday's Great South Run at Portsmouth.
The 24-year-old 1,500 metres track specialist, coached by Tony Fern in Southampton, came a highly impressive sixth in 48 minutes and 16 seconds, beating a wealth of overseas talent.
Maclean, a former AAA indoor 1,500m champion from Curdridge, is getting back to his best after sitting his final medical exams at Southampton University.
