	J Records - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		J Records is a major record label, it is a part of the Sony BMG music conglomerate.
		It was founded in 2000 by music veteran Clive Davis, after his ousting from Arista Records.
		BMG bought a majority stake in the label in 2002 and shifted it to operate under RCA Records Group, where Davis was appointed President and CEO.

		The company was founded as the successor label to Bell Records in 1974 by Clive Davis, and named after his secondary school honor society.
		This revelation caused a firestorm in the music industry, as recording artists (particularly slickly produced pop acts) were now under siege and subsequently forced to cut back on lip-synching to show that they were authentic.
		Arista, always an independently managed label at BMG, was subsequently demoted to operate under the newly formed RCA Records Group (where Davis was now, ironically, the CEO — and thus was now in control of Arista again.) In August 2005 Arista's operations were merged with that of J Records.

		The band invited some likeminded friends and musicians to contribute to early recordings, and the project known as “J.U.F” began to take shape.
		J.U.F. -- which stands for Jewish Ukrainian Freundschaft -- is a nickname that comments on Gogol Bordello’s ethnic line-up and is also a humorous nod to one of their favorite bands, D.A.F (which stands for Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), the groundbreaking 80’s German industrial punk band.

		October 12, 2004, 3:25 PM ET Carla Hay, N.Y. Actor/singer Jamie Foxx has signed a record deal with J Records.
