  J. Paul Getty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jean Paul Getty (December 15, 1892 – June 6, 1976) was an American industrialist and founder of the Getty Oil Company.
Getty fully acknowledges this in his autobiography, I enjoyed the advantage of being born into an already-wealthy family, and when I began my business career I was subsidized by my father.
It is often reported that Getty refused to pay the ransom until he was sent the boy's severed right ear.

J P Getty Biography - The Beacon Fellowship Charitable Trust
Getty donated according to his own personal principles - with thoughtfulness and personal consideration, not giving to causes that would clearly have been supported by someone else, that his giving should enhance in perpetuity the UK nation and community, and that benefactors should not have to jump through hoops to receive a grant.
He was also a powerful force in lobbying successive Ministers for the Arts with whom he argued the case for improved tax arrangements in the UK with respect to charitable donations.
Getty established philanthropy as a modern profession, dependent upon individual judgement, human reaction and the passions of trusted friends.

 Middlebrow » J.P. Getty, meet C. S. Lewis
Yet I was ready to leave my comfortable hotel room in the middle of the night and slosh a dozen blocks through a driving rainstorm for no other reason than that I wanted a cigarette –because I felt that I “had” to have one.
Thus J.P. Getty took a step back from himself, saw the situation from outside, and had to laugh at the little tobacco sticks that were somehow in command of the great businessman.
Getty crumpled up his empty pack of cigarettes, and with it he crumpled up the tobacco habit in one decisive movement, a triumph of will power over the force of habit.

The Wisden Almanack, cricket's bible, was purchased but it was his desire to have his own side " the J P Getty XI " playing at its own ground, which led Sir Paul to build a beautiful and quintessentially English cricket ground.
Initially the J P Getty XI played friendly matches against MCC, The Forty Club, The Stoics, Oxford University and even the odd touring side like South Africa.
Lancashire will struggle to get all their kit in the small dressing-room they are given, but the only disappointing feature for Mark Chilton's side will be the fact that they will not be able to partake in the generous hospitality that is enjoyed by the hundreds of guests who regularly attend matches here.

If J.P. Getty was alive today, we believe he would be having a field day with purchases of precious metals and select mining stocks.

Getty is credited with saying, “I’d rather have 1% of a hundred peoples effort than 100% of my own.” Relative to this major fund raising effort, Getty’s words seem to hold true.
Therefore, this fund raising approach is designed to get everyone in the gymnastics community (including current and former gymnasts, parents, friends, clubs and vendors) involved in this effort.
