Dr Pepper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dr Pepper's flavor is allegedly derived from a mixture of soda fountain flavors popular when the drink was first devised.
Today, the plant is still in operation, and is the only US source for Dr Pepper made with real cane sugar (from Texas-based Imperial Sugar).
The headquarters of Dr Pepper are situated in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

Rays: Once a revered ritual, pepper becomes passe
Pepper was the early 1920s creation of Jesse Lee "Doc" Tally, said Terry Bertolino, co-author of The House of David Baseball Team (Arcadia).
The Gashouse Gang's version actually was the flip game, a cousin of pepper, several fielders flipping the ball to each other, sometimes never taking it out of their glove.
"Pepper was part of your life in a day's work.

 FoodTale: PEPPERCORNS
Pepper's ability to spice up the bland European diet made it an item of extreme luxury and a staple of trade between Europe and India from the earliest days of commerce--worth its weight in gold...because overland traders squeezed every penny out of the pepper business that they could.
When the skin and fleshy parts are removed from the fully ripe berry, the remaining hard seed is white--our "white pepper." When the berries are picked when not quite ripe and are then dried and winnowed, they are black and biting, with a sweet undertone.
The active--and hot--ingredient in pepper is piperine, an alkaloid of pyridine.

A. Peppers that are allowed to mature and ripen entirely, from green to yellow to red, are higher in vitamin content, especially vitamin A. There is little difference in taste although there is a considerable difference in texture caused by the ripening process.
Peppers need moist conditions to germinate and are hungry for water during the seedling stage and throughout the growing season.

The Straight Dope Mailbag: The Straight Dope Mailbag: Does the soft drink Dr Pepper contain prunes?
In the 1950s, the Dr Pepper company published a brochure that said, "Its unique flavor results from the blending of pure fruit flavors (gathered throughout the world) with mystic spices from far-off Madagascar, and clean, clear distilled sparkling water." I guess polyethylene glycol could be one of those mystic spices.
If you hold some Dr Pepper in your mouth a few minutes before swallowing, there is a slight yogurt like note." He goes on to say that a query to the Dr Pepper company vice president confirmed that synthetic vanillin is an ingredient.
Dr Pepper is older than any of the other major soft drinks in America--older than Coke, Pepsi and 7Up.

Spice Pages: Pepper (Piper nigrum, Black Peppercorns)
In Japan, white pepper is often used as an alternative to the local variety of sichuan pepper.
White pepper is significantly more expensive than black pepper, on one hand in compensation of the high risk to lose an entire harvest to changing weather, and on the other hand for the extra work involved.
Pepper is unique in the spice world as the pepper fruits are marketed in four different versions: They can be processed to give black, white, green and red peppercorns.

Spice Pages: Sichuan (Szechwan) Pepper (Zanthoxylum, fagara, hua jiao, sansho 山椒, timur, andaliman, tirphal)
Sichuan pepper is most important in the cuisines of Central China and Japan, but the related species (which I shall call “sichuan pepper” as well, for simplicity) is also known in parts of India, the whole Himalaya region, and in selected spots in South East Asia.
Water pepper seeds have a much increased pungency, and it is remarkable that this spice is not used traditionally in the cooking of any country, despite its easy availability and large distribution in Eurasia.
The typical flavour of sichuan peppers is due to essential oils which are, as a rule, mostly composed from terpenoids, but the exact composition varies considerably among the species, and sometimes even within the species.

Amazon.com: Music: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [DELUXE EDITION]
After "Sgt. Pepper..." came a directionless time during which the "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Yellow Submarine" records were released, followed by the period the band's breakdown, as chronicled in the "White Album", "Let It Be" and "Abbey Road".
The 'Sgt. Pepper' inserts (which give rise the idea that this is some how a concept album) are fun better rather redunant and not that essential.
To appreciate the significance of "Sgt. Pepper..." you have to understand the pivotal place of the Beatles in the culture of the time.

Pepper and the Imposters is a short page which offers some large pictures of the original and some imitations to those interested.
The Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Co. Museum had a catalogue available at one point, but as of March 18, 1999, the shop was out of them and its staff didn’t know when they were going to get more.
Milly Walker, the Collections Manager/Curator for the Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Co. Museum in Dublin, Texas, sent me a very nice email on November 21, 2002, in which she said “We are very impressed with the accuracy of your information.” That’s not an official endorsement, of course, but I think it says a lot.
