Flight attendants, formerly known as sky girls, air hostesses, stewardesses and stewards, are airline staff employed as attendants primarily for the safety of the passengers.
Although it is often assumed by passengers that flight attendants mainly exist to attend to the comfort of those on board, they actually exist primarily to guard the safety of the passengers and to prepare the passenger cabin in the case of an emergency.
Flight attendant training is usually done in a hub city of the airline and lasts from six weeks to six months, depending on the country; the main focus of training is safety.

But Vesna was happy for the mistake; it afforded her the opportunity to see Denmark, and to stay in a Sheraton Hotel, which she had always dreamed of doing.

 Damn Interesting » Vesna's Fall
What I read on Wiki was this: “…She remained strapped into her flight attendant's seat in the tail section of the plane, which remained attached to the washrooms.
I am presuming she was still strapped into the flight attendant’s seat, the cart got wedged behind her, a body landed on top of her, and the German man was sorting through the parts and found the whole mess.
This story was mentioned on an episode of Mythbusters, which attributed her survival to the fact that she was strapped into her flight attendat's seat, which is not a regular seat like passengers sit in, but is actually a little alcove recessed into the wall.
