Given the number of JFK's enemies-the CIA, the Mafia, anti-Castro Cubans, the Republicans, southern racists, the military and even his own vice-president-and all the threats against his life, it is hardly surprising that Kennedy's proposed trip to Texas in the fall of 1963 was hotly debated within the White House.
On November 4, a Texan member of the National Democratic Committee, Byron Selton, wrote Robert Kennedy that a prominent Dallas businessman called JFK "a liability to the free world" and urged that the trip to Texas, or at least the Dallas leg of it, be cancelled.

Oliver Stone: Our Greatest Film Director
JFK is everything the cinema was meant to be - entertaining, educational, visually stunning, wonderfully acted, craftily directed, brilliantly written and edited, and most important of all, moving.
The assassination of JFK was one of the most mysterious and tragic events in our country's history, and the explanation given to us by the Warren Commission of a single lone assassin is one of the most ridiculous theories ever presented.
I've studied the JFK case independently for six years, and Stone's film simply tries to put together some of the pieces into a new history, because our kids cannot continue to be brought up being taught that Oswald killed Kennedy - something darker and much more sinister and tragic happened that day.

Shortly after the film was released, I ran into Walter Cronkite and received a tongue-lashing, aimed at myself and my colleagues who had praised ``JFK.'' There was not, he said, a shred of truth in it.
My notion is that ``JFK'' is no more, or less, factual than Stone's ``Nixon''_or ``Gandhi,'' ``Lawrence of Arabia,'' ``Gladiator,'' ``Amistad,'' ``Out of Africa,'' ``My Dog Skip'' or any other movie based on ``real life.'' All we can reasonably ask is that it be skillfully made and seem to approach some kind of emotional truth.
``JFK'' argues, and most of us still agree, that Oswald's high-speed accuracy is hard to believe.
