  JHU Dynamical Systems and Control Laboratory
JHU ROV#1, a new vehicle developed by Ph.D. students David Smallwood and Ralf Bachmayer, is presently nearing completion.
Inventions [P1], [P2], and [P3] were licensed in 2002 from JHU by the start-up medical robotics company Imageguide Inc. This medical robot, to be released after FDA approval in 2004, will be a commercial version of the PAKY/RCM surgical robot developed by Whitcomb and collaborators.
Licensed by JHU to Imageguide, Inc. in January 2002.

 Astrophysics at JHU
In the last several years, the program has received a substantial impetus from the placement of the Space Telescope Science Institute on the Homewood campus; as a result, Baltimore has now become one of the principal foci of world astronomy.
Work in the Center for Astrophysical Sciences (CAS) at JHU is now centered in three areas: developing instrumentation for astronomical observations, particularly from space; optical observational astronomy from the ground and space; and theory.
In addition, there are active groups building experiments for sounding rockets, developing plans for new astronomical satellites, and exploring active optics systems to remove atmospheric "seeing." Several members of the instrumentation group are particularly interested in solar system problems such as the nature of comets and the physics of planetary atmospheres and magnetospheres.
