After the end of the Galileo mission and in the light of the discoveries Galileo made, NASA was planning a future Jupiter mission called JIMO: Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter.
The JIMO mission was in its early planning stage and liftoff was not to be expected before 2017.
Another spacecraft planned to orbit Jupiter is Juno, due to launch by 2010 to study Jupiter's atmosphere and magnetic field.

After the discovery of a liquid ocean on Jupiter's moon Europa and the end of the Galileo probe, which was deorbited in September 2003, NASA is planning a mission dedicated to the icy moons.
The JIMO, or Jupiter Icy Moons Orbiter, is expected to be launched sometime after 2012.
