  Ottawa Japan Karate Association
Established in 1973 by Sensei Saeki, the Ottawa JKA is a member Dojo of the Canada JKA Karate Federation (CJKF).
Both organizations are responsible for maintaining the high quality of JKA style by setting standards for kyu grading (belt levels from white to brown) and overseeing dan level exams (fl belt).
It also sponsors the annual Ottawa JKA summer karate camp in Ottawa which attracts students from all over Canada and often a contingent of Japanese karate students.

 Which JKA?
In England there are former JKA groups who have formed their own orgs and offshoots from them.
Some are connected with one JKA in Japan, others with the "newer" one and those with no affiliation.
I feel the best karate is taught when the instructor does not need to make a living off the teaching, but only does it for the love of the art and wanting to pass on the knowledge gained in the true spirit of karatedo.

We deeply regret the death of one of the previous JKA chief instructors,Tetsuhiko Asai, who died on the night of August the 15th in Tokyo, Japan.He was one of the first participants of the JKA instructor program and was a true pioneer in karate.

 Essex Karate Clubs - Billericay JKA
JKA England Chief Instructor, Sensei Ohta was back at the Yushikai Dojo on Saturday 16th June 2007.
A number of Yushikai members were in attendance for the course and enjoyed the superb training, socialising and general atmosphere of the entire event.

Eventually, the university groups decided to withdraw from the JKA and reform on one hand Shotokai, where Master Funakoshi was the president until his death and the All-Japan University Karate League under the leadership of Isao Obata.

Soon after, in 1948, Funakoshi's students gathered together to form the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in Yotsuya, Tokyo, with Funakoshi as the honorary head of the organization and with Masatoshi Nakayama as the Chief Instructor.
Hidetaka Nishiyama began training karate in 1943 under Funakoshi at the Shoto-kan. He was a co-founder of the JKA and was elected as first Chairman.
In 1963, Sugiyama Sensei moved to the U.S. to teach Karate at the request of the Chicago Karate Club, which was sponsored by Walter Nakamoto.
