  Gakkentoshi Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Katamachi Line (Japanese: 片町線), nicknamed Gakkentoshi Line (学研都市線), is a railway line between Osaka and Kizu (north of Nara), Japan, operated by the West Japan Railway Company.
Its nickname, literally "Science City Line," comes from the Kansai Science City, which is located on the line between Osaka and Nara.
The Gakkentoshi Line is connected by the JR Tozai Line to the JR Kobe Line and JR Takarazuka Line, allowing trains from Nara to operate as far west as Kobe, Himeji, and Sanda.

I thought we'd have to loop it to Osaka station, then transfer to the Kobe line, but James pointed out a shorter route on the Tozai line.
It was a nice stroll, and Kobe definitely has a different feel to it than Osaka does, even though it's not so far away.
