  Jabalia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The camp had a registered population of 103,646 inhabitants on June 30, 2002, and is located at the northern end of the Gaza Strip, close to the Israeli border and a village with the same name.
Jabalia is known for its fertile soil and citrus trees.
The Mamluk ruler Alam ad-Din Sangar al-Gawli ruled the area in the 1300s and donated land for the Omeri Masjid that anchors the village.

Jabalia camp is located north of Gaza City beside a village of the same name.
The camp was established after the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict for 35,000 refugees who had fled from villages in southern Palestine.
Prior to the closure of the Gaza Strip in September 2000, most of the refugees worked as labourers in Israel or locally in agriculture in nearby farms in Beit Lahia.

In eighteen days, the ICRC assisted over 2'400 Jabalia families, unable to leave their homes due to intense fighting, with food parcels and drinking water.

Teaching for 40,000 pupils at 34 UNRWA schools in Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun was suspended when the IDF operation began on 29 September.
Due to the fighting and restrictions on movement, 1,154 UNRWA teachers were prevented from reaching their duty stations, resulting in a loss of 13,938 teaching days at a cost of USD280,000 by the end of the operation.
UNRWA primary health centres in Jabalia and Beit Hanoun operated on 24 hour shifts during the incursion and additional staff were called in to handle the emergency situation; ambulance drivers were on call throughout and transported 46 injured persons to neighbouring hospitals.

The day we arrived, youth from Jabalia camp had just finished planting small olive trees along sidewalks and young boys watered the newly planted trees and flowers in the new park created by PARC - the only park in Jabalia.
