Chalker married Eva C. Whitley in 1978; they had two sons, the first born named David W. Chalker (born December 19th, 1981) and Steven L. Chalker (born September 4th, 1991).
On December 6, 2004 the doctor called and suggested Chalker should be rushed to the hospital because of leg pains and heavy breathing while walking.
Chalker was later diagnosed with congestive heart failure on December 7, 2004.

Chalker Since this week's theme seems to be mega-reviews of authors' entire bodies of work, I figured I'd take a shot at one whom I happen to have read a lot of.
Chalker changes details of the background each time, most notably Nathan Brazil's various answers to his original identity, but I'm not sure whether to consider them annoying continuity errors or simply Nathan lying a lot.
Chalker once said that he didn't intended to write any more Well World books beyond Twilight, and so whenever the publisher asked him for one he would quote an outrageous price.

Jack L. Chalker, the award-winning author of more than 60 SF novels and anthologies, died at Bon Secours hospital in Baltimore, Feb. 11, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America announced.
Chalker had been hospitalized since Dec. 25 for congestive heart failure and suffered from lung and kidney distress while in the hospital.
Chalker is survived by his wife, Eva C. Whitley, and his two sons, David Whitley Chalker and Steven Lloyd Chalker, both of Baltimore.

Jack Chalker's latest return to the Well World is a pretty solid effort, but it doesn't feature Nathan Brazil or Mavra Chang, and it doesn't even reach the Well World until half way through, so I wonder how fans will react.
Chalker may not personally be a sick guy, but he's sure got a thing about sick stuff.
Chalker is rightly dinged for reusing the same plot devices over and over, and since this novel is set in the Well World universe, it will only provide more ammo for his critics.

Chalker's treatment of a good idea ended up very broad but also very superficial, only scratching the surface of the story's potential.

It was with a great deal of sadness that I recently read about the death of veteran SciFi author Jack L. Chalker.
Jack died on February 11 at Bon Secours hospital in Baltimore where he had been since December 25 due to congestive heart failure and lung and kidney distress.
If I'd commented about how hard Chalker was on his women characters, it's only fair to point out how many strong women characters are in his stories.

We had a miscommunication with the funeral director on the internment, and Jack won't actually be buried for several days and when the Roaring Bull starts running in the spring I'll organize a little trip to Liverpool to toss part of Jack's ashes off the ferry to make their way, eventually, to the Chesapeake Bay.
Jack was sent to University Specialty Hospital at the beginning of this month but last month got moved back to the hospital (Bon Secours, not University of Maryland, which was on Red Alert and not accepting emergencies).
How Jack Chalker's Surgery Went, and Click here if you still want to leave Jack a "Get Well Message", because Mom or Dave is reading all of them (except mine) tomorrow at 12pm.

If you have read Exiles, and found it a good book, this one is a must (it's really the second half).
