Jack Hills - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Jack Hills are located in the Narryer Gneiss Terrane of the Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia, and comprise an 80 km long northeast-trending belt of folded and metamorphosed supracrustal rocks.
The protolith age of the Narryer Gneiss Terrane is variable, but generally considered to be in excess of 3.6 Ga (billion years).
Detrital zircons with ages >4000 Ma have been found in these rocks and a 4,404 +/- 8 Myr zircon was found at Eranondoo Hill (Wilde et al., 2001), the oldest dated material on Earth.

 Jack Selz Essay
Jack Stuppin, no Sunday painter he, has been exhibiting his work since he was a painting student of Sam Tchakalian, Bill Allan and Jay de Feo at the San Francisco Art Institute in the late 1960’s.
Jack Stuppin has not embarked on so ambitious a project; he is satisfied to reproduce the mountain, as it looks in its wide expanse--sometimes in a cerulean blue, at others in a stark pure purple.
Under the fog are the blonde, curving hills, wide groups of trees, tilled fields, and small barns that are painted red, as is a small plot in the center of the canvas.

The Jack Hills conglomerate was deposited three billion years ago and marks the northwestern edge of a widespread assembly of rock formations that are all older than 2.6 billion years.
Jack Hills zircons have elevated concentrations of these elements as well as patterns of europium and cerium that are most commonly created during the crystallization of crust, which means the zircons formed near the earth's surface rather than in the mantle.

Bower said PAW members have leases on thousands of acres in the planning area and are very interested in exploring the potential of developing the area.

The FLPMA states "the public lands [are to] be managed in a manner that will protect the quality of scientific, historical, ecological, environmental, air and atmospheric, water resource, and archeological values." I agree with the Preferred Alternative in that the planning area should be managed to maintain and, where possible, enhance present air quality levels.
Consequently, to ensure that air quality does not degrade (and perhaps improves) I suggest the BLM remain in close coordination with the State regulatory agency as management decisions are being contemplated for the area.
This seems particularly important since I was told during a recent tour of the Jack Morrow Hills that 40 percent of the core area is already under lease.

Industry is concerned about access to vast energy resources — a conservative estimate of some 3-5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, the potential for severe restrictions or.a total withdrawal of mineral development on valid leases and the precedence of BLM actions that could affect leasing throughout all of Southwest Wyoming.
With the new supplemental EIS process, ranchers are worried about long standing cattle grazing in the hills because of potential restrictions on new water development (e.g., reservoirs or pipeline to carry water into the area) and reduced use of riparian areas.

In the Jack Morrow Hills, a person can climb to the top of ancient volcanic buttes and look out into the horizon across a wide-open landscape, watch a bull elk bugle to potential mates, or catch a glimpse of a ferruginous hawk - a rare bird of prey declining throughout most of the west.
The agency, under the anti-environmental Bush administration, is pushing to bring hundreds of new oil, gas, and coalbed methane wells into this spectacular area, along with the associated spiderweb of roads, pipelines, powerlines, and compressor stations.
Even if every acre of the Jack Morrow Hills were drilled and all technically recoverable oil and gas deposits were developed, well beyond the scope of this plan, the nation would be supplied with only 9 weeks of natural gas and 39 minutes of oil.
