He is replaced by Jack Lescoulie, with the show's format being changed to be more like "Today" than the talk/variety show format "Tonight" had under Allen.
Lescoulie was a flop, so NBC hired Al "Jazzbo" Collins to serve as emcee in June.
But Collins didn't last very long; NBC was already planning to replace him with a new host and go back to the original format.

Following the departure of Jack Paar, the name of the series reverted to The Tonight Show and the program continued with a succession of guest hosts until the next era of the series was ready to begin.
Jose Melis led the band for Jack Paar, and Hugh Downs was his announcer.

Jack was on TV just as succesful, which was a surprise given radio's obvious limitations (like Les Paul trying to replicate his sound and hits in public).
One of his sketches involved a violin, with Mel Blanc as one of his JB characters,"Professor leBlanc",singing various sarcastic, beleaugured tunes to the tune of the five finger exercise that goes,Da Da DA da da DA da da,,and so on,,the Jack Benny tune.

In both shorts, that was radio emcee/actor Jack Lescoulie (I believe he also performed the task in "Goofy Groceries," though I haven't heard that in ages, and possibly elsewhere; the much briefer Benny vocal cameo in "Hollywood Daffy" was recognizably Mel Blanc).
One of Lescoulie's many radio gigs was as host (or "Grouchmaster") of the panel spoof "The Grouch Club," which began in 1938 and whose cast at various times also included Arthur Q. Bryan, Sara Berner, and Mel Blanc.
The program was broadcast from station KFWB, right on the Warner's lot, apparently, which may or may not have influenced his selection.
