Jack Reid is a Canadian artist and a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (CSPWC),.
His paintings are seen in the diverse locales of people's homes, galleries, major corporate collections, or in Windsor Castle in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's personal collection.
Reid started out as a graphic artist, and with no formal training, plunged full-time into a new career.

Reid was born in Kentucky, in the small town of Bandana, and was an excellent student.
Reid is perhaps most well known for his role in the Battle of Midway, in the Pacific.
Reid commented, ``It was the greatest naval battle in the history of the world--a battle we won that we should have lost.'' What he did not acknowledge was that it was his early action and information that helped save the day, and eventually the war.

He is a physical person, built thick and powerful, with hands that could grip a miner’s sledge as easily as he handles the daintiest of brushes.
Jack worked as a graphic artist until 1970 and only then did he venture into the world of pure art, full time, without the benefit of formal training.
In 1992 Jack was awarded the Commemorative Medal by the federal government for his contribution to Canadian art and honoured to be Arts Person of the Year in his hometown in Ontario.

Reid was born and raised in Bandana, Kentucky a small town near Paducah.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Mae Reid of Aptos; two sons, Hal Reid of Aptos and Jim Reid of Redding; sister, Berah McKinney of Michigan; also survived by a grandson, Jim Reid of Sonoma and two great grandsons.

02-15-2004, 05:50 PM I wondered if Jack Reid was still alive and active -- one of his books was a favorite of mine (from the library, with a copyright date at least a decade old).
I have taken a weekend course a couple of years ago with Jack Reid and he is a legend in this area for his ability with the paintbrush, techniques and lovely art.
02-17-2004, 11:27 PM I took a course with Jack and found him to be a great teacher, fun personality and made it a very worthwhile experience.

My GGGF was Jesse Taylor Reid, caucasian, who came to Gonzales County, TX, around 1865-68 from AL/MS/TN or somewhere similar.
At least one of his children, Charles Lafayette Reid, spent some time in OK (during a move from the Gonzales, TX area to the Lometa, TX area).
I think one of his children was a "Jack," who would have been a brother to Jerome, J.T., and others, and roughly the right age
