  Jack Whyte
Jack was born in Dundee on 1st April 1922 and sadly his mother died aged 31 when he was just a young child.
Jack jumped at the chance to see the world so thus became a new entrant at the Prince of Wales Hostel for Boys, Limehouse (which was later changed to Sea School).
Jack was released from the M.N. on 22nd January 1946.

 Interview | Jack Whyte
I ask Jack Whyte a couple of questions about his work and little else is required of me. In fact, after a while, I'm not even there anymore.
Whyte's magic has been not only in recreating a period of history that has been polished to the gloss of legend, but also in explaining it all in a way that demystifies that magic.
Whyte's readership grows with the publication of each new book and his international reputation grows with his publication credits.

Jack White : Irish Anarchist who organised Irish Citizens Army   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Captain Jack White is known as the man who drilled the Irish Citizen Army during the 1913 lock-out.
Jack organised one of the first Protestant meetings, in Ballymoney, to rally Protestant opinion against the Unionist Party and against what he described as its "bigotry and stagnation", that associated Northern Protestants with conservatism.
His body was hardly cold when the family, ashamed of Jack's revolutionary politics, destroyed all his papers, including a study of the Cork Harbour 'soviet' of 1921.

 Jack Whyte
We are given impressions of Theodosius, the general and later emperor, who quelled the rebellion and re-instituted political and military structure to the colony, of Maxen Wledig, the upstart general who bled Britain of her legions to pursue his own attempt at the throne.
Whyte's story is strong and flowing, it reads easily without the standard distractions that I have faced with other similar books.
There was a purpose in Whyte's structure - a depiction of the beginning lawlessness and laxness of moral character, but it could have been crystallized down to a couple of chapters or intersperced into the plot.

Amazon.com: Uther (Camulod Chronicles): Books: Jack Whyte   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
Once again Whyte weaves a tale of intrigue, betrayal, love, and war in a gritty and realistic tale that continues to explore the legend of Camelot.
Whyte deftly stage manages Uther's boyhood, adolescence, early manhood and tragically unlucky kingship, revealing, through a host of well-rounded minor characters drawn from both legend and a seemingly inexhaustible imagination, a man whose courage and honor constantly war against his melancholy core.
Jack Whyte's books are my second favourite series of all time (which is saying a lot), and I was very excited for the opportunity to really know the other "Prince of Camulod," Uther.

If you're Jack Whyte, you begin your retelling of the Arthurian saga by taking one giant step backward to the latter days of the Roman Empire in Britain, sometime between the first breaching of Hadrian's Wall and the legendary days of King Arthur.
Whyte re-creates the turbulence and uncertainty that marked fifth-century Britain and provides a possible origin for one of the greatest artifacts of Arthurian myth-the legendary sword Excalibur.
Jack Whyte ties together the end of the Roman era with beginning of the dark ages in rich detail-- covering such things as the evolution from the short sword to the broad sword and the transformation from infantry to heavy calvary.

Montreal Mirror - Books: Clothar the Frank
Clothar is the first novel of a pair - a companion couplet to Whyte's popular A Dream of Eagles series - and recounts the early years of King Arthur's controversial sideman Lancelot du Lac (or Clothar the Frank, as Whyte would have it).
Many will be most drawn in when Whyte leaves behind the fireside chats expounding on historical events and digs into the hardcore fiction, fleshing out Clothar's adventures: depictions of slaughter and treachery, tense confrontations with unknown assailants, and friendships borne out of brave feats.
Fans of Whyte's Dream of Eagles series may find themselves rushing ahead, falsely assuming the main story arc here to be Clothar's introduction to Merlyn or even Arthur.
