Jack Yan (甄爵恩, Pinyin: Zhēn Ju??ēn) is a publisher, designer and businessman, born 1972 in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
A child of KMT supporters, Jack Yan emigrated to Wellington, New Zealand with his parents in the mid-1970s, and graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with business and Bachelor of Lawslaw degrees.
Jack Yan founded his own company in 1987 while a teenager and grew it, initially, into the region's leading typefacefont software firm, claiming to be the first New Zealander to design digital typefaces.

Perhaps oddly, it is slightly condensed, but Jack Yan’s own tests showed that the roman and bold weights remained very legible despite the lower resolution of the screen, and allowed for greater copyfitting—not always a consideration for web designers.
The typeface family was released in December 1997, 10 years after the founding of Jack Yan and Associates.
Previously, Jack Yan had developed his first sans serif typeface for his own foundry, although he had completed work on several others for clients.

Melbourne and Wellington, August 2 (JY&A Media) Jack Yan, one of Australasia's most respected typeface designers and publisher of the monthly print fashion magazine Lucire which launches in New Zealand in October, is in Melbourne to give the Australian Graphic Design Association's (AGDA) 'The Craft and Business of Typography' Forum at Federation Square on Tuesday.
Mr Yan, who helms Jack Yan & Associates (www.jya.net), a communications' company involved in brand consulting, imaging and media, will be giving a talk on how Australia can lift its reputation in typeface design, while touching on his international consulting work and Kiwi fashion mag Lucire.
Jack Yan & Associates' JY&A Imaging division already has products on CD-ROMs that have sold particularly well amongst graphic designers worldwide.
