  Jackal (comics) - Biocrawler
The Jackal (Miles Warren) is a supervillain in the Marvel Comics universe, and an enemy of Spider-Man.
The Jackal's research was also used to create the several incarnations of the villain Carrion, one of whom was thought to be another clone of the Jackal.
The Jackal returned at this point and convinced both Parker and Reilly that Reilly was the real Peter Parker and that the other man was the clone, and created a number of other Peter Parker clones who came into conflict with Spider-Man, the Scarlet Spider, and Kaine.

 NationMaster - Encyclopedia: The Jackal
Jackals are nocturnal animals, concealing themselves until dusk in woody jungles and other natural lurking places, and then sallying forth in packs, which sometimes number two hundred individuals, and visiting farmyards, villages and towns in search of food.
The cry of the jackal is even more appalling than that of the hyena, a shriek from one member of a pack being the signal for a general chorus of screams, which is kept up during the greater part of the night.
Jackals are readily tamed; and domesticated individuals are said, when called by their masters, to wag their tails, crouch and throw themselves on the ground, and otherwise behave in a dog-like fashion.

Opinions 14 - Casualties of Retcon VII: The Spider-Clone (Dec 1999)
This story dated from a different era in comics in which very few characters died (except villains, who die as part of their idiom), and in which dead characters (except, again, villains) did not reappear after the passage of a few issues of stories on another subject.
In modern comics, we may have incidents like the Kyle Raynor Green Lantern finding his girlfriend, in pieces, in a freezer, in a crass story that would not seriously impact the development of the character.
Said Jackal, however, brought about both the dreadful Gwen Stacy clone (as part of an effort to play with Spider-Man's beleaguered consciousness) and the aforementioned, and departed, Peter Parker clone (as part of the same or another effort to inflict misery on Spider-Man, and probably also upon his readers).

I think it comes down to the fact Joss is a comic fanboy at heart. He grew up reading comics and probably gets a thrill writing the X-Men,characters he loved in his youth, or having his creations appear in a medium he loves.
But I utterly disagree with the suggestion that comics can't convey the size of Joss's genius, or that his talent is too immense for the comic form.
No matter how good the comic artist is, there's no way he or she can convey the density of texture and meaning you get with Joss and his writers writing for actors of his own choosing.

Secondly, Why dont you consult the first post and notice that the original poster asked, "wouldnt it be cool if the dopplegangers turned out to be clones created by the jackal?".
This version of the Jackal is a fourth clone of Miles Warren, even further genetically altered to a point where his body is always cold (causing him to wear a thick fur coat even in the hottest weather) and he now needs to suck blood to survive.
Apart from that he is just a green guy that spidey can kick the crap out of easily.
