Jackson observed, "I see from the number of physicians that you think my condition dangerous, but I thank God, if it is His will, that I am ready to go." On Sunday, May 10, 1863, the doctors lost all hope of Jackson's recovery, and the General was notified of his condition.

Jackson was born in a backwoods settlement to Scots-Irish immigrants in the Waxhaw area in the Carolinas, on March 15, 1767.
Jackson saw military service again in the First Seminole War, when he was ordered by President James Monroe in December 1817 [3] to lead a campaign in Georgia against the Seminole and Creek Indians, and to prevent Spanish Florida from becoming a "refuge for runaway slaves".
