In the county the population was spread out with 25.60% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44, 23.00% from 45 to 64, and 12.90% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $43,171, and the median income for a family was $50,970.

It is served by the Michigan Central, the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern, the Grand Trunk and the Cincinnati Northern railways, and by inter-urban electric lines.

Jackson is served by the Illinois Central, the Alabama and Vicksburg, the Gulf and Ship Island, New Orleans Great Northern, and the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley railways, and during the winter by small freight and passenger steamboats on the Pearl River.

In September, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees accepted a gift of land in Jackson County from MacCready Realty on behalf of Douglas, Lynn and Willis MacCready, brothers and co-owners of the Michigan Seat Company.
Bounded on the east by Myers Road, on the west by Skiff Lake Road, on the south by Jefferson Road, and on the north by private property, it consists of 408 acres of rolling forest that is entirely wooded except for approximately 30 acres of open land.
