Upon Oklahoma's statehood in1907, a 200 square mile area was christened Bugg County, being formed by natural boundaries: a twenty-mile outcrop of granite mountains on the east, the North Folk of the Red River on the north, Buttermilk River on the west, and, finally, the Red River on the south.
Junebug is famous for four things: the world-famous horror writer Edwin Dark; the annual Junebug Chocolate and Rattlesnake Festival; being the smallest county in Oklahoma; and the unusual, strange, and horrific events that have taken place over the past one-hundred years.

Jackson's political career began when he was elected the newly formed state of Tennessee's first representative to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1796.
Jackson was given the responsibility of dealing with the problem and he soon gained national fame for his successful campaign against the Creek Indians.
In 1832, the Starchers donated eight acres of land to the county, two acres for the location of the county courthouse and jail, and six for the general use of the new county (a public school and a cemetery were later located on the land).
