Monroe County, in East Central Arkansas, is bounded on the north by Woodruff and St. Francis Counties, east by Lee and Phillips Counties, southwest and west by Arkansas and Prairie Counties.
Judge H. Bateman, judge of the county and probate and of the court of common pleas of Monroe County, Ark., has been a resident of the county all his life, having been born one and one-half miles from Clarendon, in 1857, and is a worthy descendant of an old and highly respected family.
In 1856 he came to Monroe County, and until the opening of the war acted in the capacity of an overseer, but gave up this work and in 1862 joined Company E, A. Johnson's Regiment of Infantry and held the positions of sergeant and lieutenant until 1863, when he was made captain of his company.

The north-western third of this county is a wilderness of Catskill upper rocks (IX) with low knobs and ridges of Pocono sandstone (X) everywhere 2,000` to 2,200 A.T. drained westward by the Tobyhanna waters into the Lehigh river.
The five north-eastern townships cover a rolling-hill country of the Catskill middle and lower strata, a belt of which forms also the foot hills of the Pocono in northern Jackson, Chestnut Hill, and Polk townships to the Carbon county line.

He was married in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, September 16, 1878, to Isabella, daughter of Anthony Bets, of Germany, and Mary Jane Brown Betz, of Pennsylvania.

Stephen A. ATKINSON was born February 13, 1840, at the residence of his father on the south side of Sunfish creek, in the town of Cameron (formerly Jamestown), Adams township, Monroe county, Ohio.
Stephen, the father, was born June 17, 1793, at Waynesburg, Greene county, Pennsylvania, and died of cancer at Cameron, Monroe county, Ohio, March 24, 1874, and was buried in the Cameron cemetery.
William served as commissioner of the county, and died at Clarington; Mitchell taught the first school in the county, and was elected county surveyor; Isaac was the first representative elected in the county, and the second senator.

Allen states that Jackson County was home to a fairly numerous Indian population.
It was here that a boatload of immigrants on their way to New Design settlement in Monroe County were attacked by the Indians in 1786.

Private George Peter Dreisbach, born May 21, 1840, at Plainfield Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, was the first child of Aaron and Mary Ann Stocker Dreisbach.
On February 8, 1862 at Hamilton Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania, Peter enlisted in Company H of the 67th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry for three years and was mustered February 15.
The war news is not much to write for this time but we did hear that Stonewall Jackson, the Rebels general, wants to eat his dinner in Harpers Ferry, Virginia, on the 1st of April.

Corbett said that as law enforcement entered the property they discovered an active meth lab in an attached garage of the home.  Agents are in the process of seizing approximately one ounce of methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $3,000 and other items used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Corbett said Steven and Eileen Myers were both charged with two counts each of delivery of methamphetamine and criminal conspiracy.  Sharon Terry was charged with one count of possession of paraphernalia, Franklin was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine and Adams was charged with one count of possession of methamphetamine.
All five defendants are in the process of being arraigned in front of Tioga County Judge Robert Dalton.

A monitoring network consisting of 44 groundwater monitoring wells and five groundwater extraction wells was evaluated to identify potential opportunities to streamline monitoring activities while still maintaining an effective monitoring program.
