Jacob Thompson was born in 1810 in Leasburg, North Carolina.
Thompson was elected to the Mississippi state legislature in 1863 but was serving as a Confederate agent in Canada one year later when he tried to disrupt the Northern banking system and aid fleeing Confederate prisoners.
Jacob Thompson returned to Mississippi in 1868, was never arrested for his wartime activities, and spent the remainder of his life amassing land holdings and becoming a wealthy man. He died in 1885.

Jacob Thompson was born at Leasburg, Caswell County, N.C. of English and Dutch stock.
In 1837, he was one of the leaders in the fight of the new counties for representation in the legislature.
As one of two Confederate commissioners to Canada, Thompson was supposed to try to arrange peace terms with Copperhead Northern businessmen and politicians and also was to attempt to subvert the Union war effort by various means, including arranging the escape of Confederate prisoners of war.

Jacob Thompson, the chief of the mission, had previously served as a U.S. Congressman and Buchanan's secretary of the interior.
Thompson met with Clement L. Vallandigham, the notorious Copperhead and leader of the Sons of Liberty, and with George N. Sanders, a Confederate agent with a background of collaboration with European radicals.
Thompson became convinced that a successful uprising could be launched in the Northwest, and plotted to release Confederate prisoners of war being held in the Great Lakes region to aid in the revolt.

She was married to Jacob PERKINS on 5 Jan 1693 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts.
