Timmerman's basic advice then is something like this: Let the body dominate everything, even the mind, and you will survive.
As Timmerman says, "the police need to shout; shouting helps them" (Timmerman: 83) Machiavelli's prison is a scene of confusion, chaos and corruption, and he tries hard to piece it together into a dainty hospice.
He should probably imitate the life of Jacobo Timmerman in prison, live the life of the madman Dazzo, not the life of Djilas.

Hector Timmerman, a journalist and son of the late Jacobo Timmerman, a political prisoner, leading Buenos Aires journalist and author of “Prisoner Without a Name, Cell Without a Number,” tells of the horrible conditions Jews received.
Apparently the colonel who abducted the already famous Jacobo Timmerman was convinced that the journalist was one of the “Elders of Zion.”
Although Timmerman was smuggled out of the country with the help of the Israeli Embassy, he contends that Israel did little to help Argentine Jews.

Barbwire by Barbano: Breadlines in boomtowns: the American plantations
In his 1987 book, crusading Argentine editor Jacobo Timmerman wrote that "psychiatrists discovered a tactical decision made by the military that all women arrested for political reasons should be raped...In the years of the military dictatorship, not a single rapist has been brought to trial or even reprimanded."
Timmerman, himself imprisoned during the darkest days of the Argentine generals, added that "the ideas that Fascism let loose in Latin America in the 30's...are still going strong today in Chilé."
In his book, Jacobo Timmerman noted that some 60 percent of the population lived in poverty under Pinochét.

The play, which was inspired by the confession of Susan Smith, the woman who drowned her two children by rolling their car into a lake, and the memoirs of Jacobo Timmerman, an Argentinean Jew who was imprisoned during the country's tumultuous military period.
Looking back at the play with the help of the supplemental material supplied in the program and on DET's website, I understand that the play was representing the fantasies of Jacobo Timmerman as he sat in his cell.
In his memoirs, Timmerman spoke of having one night when the guards left the peephole on his door open, allowing him to see across to another prisoner who was also looking out across the corridor.

When all of this is achieved, unfortunately, there is a temptation by the victims, and their descendents, to exploit it.
Jacobo Timmerman, an Argentine Zionist, put it bluntly when he wrote: "The Holocaust and the moral content of the Jewish tragedy have suffered a grave degradation in the hands of those who have used them to justify the invasion of Lebanon in particular, and Israeli foreign policy in general."
We agree, but to make our point dispassionately let us first look away from the Holocaust, the continuing tragedy of the Palestinians, and some of our own historical problems, like the treatment of Indians and fls, to the tragic case of the Armenians.

Previously, I had made reference to Jacobo Timmerman's book "Chile: Death in the South", commenting that our lack of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq may be a paralell to the Argentine government's claim that they had won the Falklands war when they had really lost it.
But I only hinted at what actually happened after; now, with people in senior military and intelligence posts voicing their dismay at being lied to, this blog is going to go the whole way with relating Timmerman's argument.
People were indeed very upset, but what caused the change in government in Argentina was the unwillingness of the military to lose face and be turned into patsies for the Generals' paranoid schemes.

This is a compelling story and well-acted by Scheider and Ullmann, but the rest of the cast is right out of the school of TV-acting, and obviously due to a low budget they had to shoot the scenes of Buenos Aires here in the states.

Lefever's opponents used Jacobo Timmerman, who had been imprisoned and allegedly tortured in Argentina, effectively.
He created the impression that he had been arrested simply because he was Jewish, when in fact he had come under suspicion because David Gravier, who had been the banker for the terrorist Montoneros, had owned a 50% interest in Timmerman's paper.
