Jacques Lecoq was born in Paris on December 15, 1921.
From 1968 to 1988, Jacques Lecoq was a teacher at the French school of fine arts (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts) where he developed a teaching programme on architecture based on the human body, movement and the "dynamics of mime".
Jacques Lecoq was a member of the Union of Theatres of Europe (http://www.ute-net.org), touring the world as guest teacher and speaker, giving master-classes and lectures, including the performance lecture entitled "Tout Bouge" [Everything Moves].

Lecoq's performance and lecture-demonstration Thursday at the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Center was a brilliant exposition of principles that have sent so many of today's young mimes on their way.
Lecoq, who is 64 years old and who founded his well-known theater school in Paris in 1956, chose to teach and coach in his career (he collaborated in the 1950's with Dario Fo and Georgio Strehler's Piccolo Teatro of Milan) rather than to act.
Lecoq's forte is movement analysis but unlike some who espouse similar premises in the dance world, he delivers the same ideas with a dose of irony that makes them palatable.

Jacques Lecoq (December 15, 1921 - January 19, 1999) was a French actor, mime and acting instructor.
Born in Paris, he is most famous for his methods on physical theatre, movement and mime taught at l'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq from 1956 until his death in 1999.
In 1956, he returned to Paris to open his school, L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, where he spent most of his time until his death, filling in as international speaker and master class giver for the Union of Theatres of Europe.
