  Telarc International: Jacques Loussier
Jacques Loussier was born in Angers, in northwestern France, October 26, 1934.
Continuing this distinguished lineage, Loussier was to become one of Nat’s most accomplished pupils, heading the conservatory’s piano class of over five hundred students before leaving to commence a freelance career that included travels to South America and the Middle East as well as work as accompanist for Catherine Sauvage and Charles Aznavour.
Loussier’s own music in the 1980s explored the integration of new technology with conventional instruments, just as his 1950s experiments explored the ground between jazz and classics.

Jacques Loussier first left his imprint on the jazz world in 1959 with unusual and remarkable recordings of jazz interpretations of J.S. Bach’s keyboard pieces.
Loussier approaches the string music with an essentially percussive sound, trying to achieve different ‘lighting’ effects using the bass and the drums to represent the changes in color on Vivaldi’s original.
Loussier is at his finest on The Four Seasons, and is able to capture the essence of Vivaldi and interpret his music flawlessly.

Jacques Loussier >> Nova Concerts >> International Booking Agency
Loussier's starting point has always been the desire to communicate his love of Bach, not to exploit it for his own purposes.
Jacques Loussier was born in Angers in 1934, western France, and by the time he was 13 years-old he had already resolved on a career in music.
At the age of 25, Loussier was first taken with the idea of trying to catch a glimpse of Bach through the jazz prism and by the mid sixties the unique fame of Jacques Loussier Trio had spread around the world and continued to do so for the next ten years.

SoundStage! Jacques Loussier Trio - Satie
Loussier recognized swing and syncopation hidden in J. Bach’s well-tempered piano fugues where clearly what the scores dictate is mathematical, nearly mechanical precision to render intelligible their awesome thematic complexity.
J.S. emerged from Loussier’s study with a half-smoked Gitan dangling from a three-day stubbled face behind way-cool shades and unruly hair and laid down one rollicking and funky groove after another, ably aided by drums and double bass.
Loussier’s first variation stays close to the familiar pastoral theme, which was inspired by the classical Greek anapale dance.

We took a risk at last night's Jacques Loussier Trio concert in St Peter Mancroft Norwich, and opted to sit in the front row of the choir stalls.
More seriously Loussier's jazz interpretation formulas only really worked for Bach (although his treatments of Satie's Gymnopedies are very effective).
The 71 year old Loussier is a mesmerising figure at the piano, particularly when you are ten feet way and looking straight at him.
