THE YOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT at Film Forum in New York City
Jacques Demy's widow, the filmmaker Agnès Varda, was the driving force behind the successful restoration of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and she and her family were equally determined to make sure Young Girls was also restored so that future audiences might enjoy the film.
Jacques' initial idea, even before finding a subject, was to create, in a very personal fashion, a film that would pay homage to the American musical, alternating sequences of dialogue, song and dance.
Jacques Demy was born in 1931 and began his film career assisting the animator Paul Grimault.

Michel's big break came later that year when he passed an audition for the Barclay label and was immediately signed to record his début single, "Le Madras".
In 1966 Michel met the composer and songwriter Jacques Revaux, who would go on to write most of his greatest hits.
Yet Sardou's career was saved by the fact that his friends Jacques Revaux and Régis Talar set up their own label, Tréma, and offered to produce his work.

Jacques Demy directed this frothy tribute to the Hollywood musicals of the 1940s, a follow-up to his earlier success The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964).
One day, one of Yvonne's regular customers, a sailor with an artistic bent named Maxence (Jacques Perrin), shows her a painting of the imaginary girl of his dreams, and she looks just like Delphine, whom he's never met.
Meanwhile, Simon has returned to Rochefort, bringing with him a close friend, American pianist Andy Miller (Gene Kelly); Simon has made friends with Solange and introduces her to Andy, who immediately falls in love with her.

RFI Musique - - Michel Sardou
Sardou switched to a new record label when Trema was bought out by Sony Music France (a move which put an end to his long-running financial dispute with Trema).
He made a major comeback on the music scene in March 2004 with a new album, "Du plaisir", featuring contributions from a number of new songwriters and composers including Robert Goldman, Jacques Veneruso and Rick Allison.
The album also included a duet with French Canadian star Garou ("La Rivière de notre enfance.") The first single release "Loin" soon took off on the airwaves, proving Sardou's popularity had in no way diminished over the years.
