However when Jagex introduced the pay-to-play members service the additional cash revenue meant they were able to start enforcing the rules more efficiently, and they implemented many macro detection routines and protections to ensure that an actual human was playing.
Just in time to keep their promise, Jagex took the new game out of beta, and finally released it to everyone on March 29, 2004, which gave everyone playing RuneScape (paying or not) the opportunity to play on the new gaming system.

The Forge · Runescape, EULAs, and Freedom of Speech (or “Jagex Unleashes the Power of Mohammed!”)
Jagex is free to tell people that they can’t talk about topic X in-game, and ban the person from the game for doing so, but there is no circumstance I can conceive of in which I’d consider myself obligated to follow a clause in a EULA that restricted my freedom of speech in any way.
However I think anyone advising Jagex to actually commence proceedings based on this allegation would be rather negligent and should pay the costs themselves when they inevitably lose.
Jagex has protection on these items not only for what is on the contract but also becuase there game is copyrighted.

Jagex is not only making it easy for kids to join this game, the company is actively making the game appeal to kids, and marketing the game to them.
In the last year Jagex has made the game more and more kid-friendly, through a process that older players describe as "dumbing down." Perhaps it is time for Jagex to review some of the popular sites, decide which sites players are allowed to cite, and end the unjust banning of players who want to talk about a site with their friends – bans they are receiving even without saying the site’s address.
What brings this disgust into the Times, however, is that Jagex is banning players for their names, but they are waiting until a player has been around for months, maybe even years; banning players whose names are not offensive (while saying that is the reason); and leaving players with indisputably offensive names untouched.
If Jagex is going to ban players for inappropriate names, they should upgrade their settings so that less inappropriate names get past the filters.
