Jaguar   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
In appearance the Jaguar is often confused with the Leopard - both cats, depending to a degree on sub-species have a similar brownish/yellow base fur colour, which is distinctively marked with dark rosette markings.
The jaguar is predominantly a forest dweller with the highest population densities centring on the lowland rain forests of the Amazon Basin - dry woodland and grassland also serve as suitable terrain, although the cat is rarely found in areas above 8000 feet.
The jaguars main periods of hunting activity are greatly dependant upon location - in some areas which are close to human habitation it appears that the cat is most active at night, whilst in other locations the jaguar is crepuscular and in certain cases diurnal in its hunting activity.

 Jaguar SSP - Facts Sheet
The largest jaguars have been found in the Brazilian Pantanal region, where in one study the average weight of males was 220 pounds (100kg).
One probable reason that the jaguar occurs over such a wide geographic range, and in a broad variety of habitats is that it is equipped to exploit large and small prey, in water and on land.
In 1991, Rabinowitz estimated a jaguar population in Belize of 600 to 1000 animals.

Jaguars are one of the most rare of the big cats and very difficult to study in the wild, mostly due to their highly secretive, solitary life style.
It has been said that the jaguar is the only big cat that does not roar, but the jaguar has an array of vocalizations including mews, grunts and a deep, repetitive “coughing” roar.
During the Mayan civilization, the jaguar was thought to communicate between the living and the dead, as well as protect the royal household.

Jaguar wants more buyers, and wants them to be a lot younger than the fossils who parked cats at the golf club in the 1970s, so it's being forced to play a new game.
Old-fashioned Jaguar people would consider all the money talk a little grubby, and company founder Sir William Lyons would not have been impressed, but the British brand is now part of the Ford empire and that has changed the rules.
And Jaguar will respond quickly with the power and torque figures for its rivals, which are basically the same, or worse, for similar money.

Jaguar says the 2-stroke's air/fuel ratio is an extremely lean 25:1, adding that engine-out emissions are comparable to the best of today's 4-strokes.
Jaguar's 2-stroke development program now is being transferred to Orbital in Australia for a 2-year program to refine the engine and its emissions-control system prior to making a production decision.

Jaguar XJ220 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jaguar executives who saw the concept were sufficiently impressed to formally commit company resources to producing a car for the 1988 British Motor Show.
Tom Walkinshaw Racing was tapped to produce a 6.2 L version of Jaguar's legendary V12 engine with four valves per cylinder, quad camshafts and a target output of 500 hp (373 kW).
Because Jaguar promised to limit initial production to 220 units and that total production would not exceed 350, many of those who put deposits on the cars were speculators who intended to sell the car at an immediate profit.

While the X-Type's mechanicals may owe some allegiance to Ford, its styling is all Jaguar - there is a distinct family resemblance between the X-Type and the larger XJ sedans.

Jaguar thus has had to rely more on American sales of the car, hence the incentives.
That might actually be a good thing for any American looking to buy this car; Jaguars were never ubiquitous, since they cost more (and, not too long ago, were less reliable) than other cars in their class.

Apparently Parker had told him that Nimrod was a “special down the line” car, built for him on the express instructions of Lofty England, whom he had known well from his motor sport activities, and that it had been fitted with high-lift cams and uprated suspension and brakes.
Dealing with Boschettis’s modifications, the most useful ones are the fitting of a Jaguar all-synchromesh gearbox (as used on later Mark 2s) and a Kenlowe fan, both of which make the car a much more usable one.
Nor is there anything in there about the brakes, but when my local garage overhauled them last year, the standard parts for a Mark 2 did not fit and, once they got hold of the parts that did, told me that the brakes worked better than on a normal Mark 2.
