Preview: 2007 Jaguar XK - MSN Autos
The lower weight due to the aluminum means the XK coupe and convertible weigh dozens to hundreds of pounds less than their main competitors, the Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6-Series, although Cadillac's fiberglass-bodied XLR is lighter still.
While Jaguar is hoping to emphasize the sportier side of the new car's personality, they cannot ignore the fact—especially in light of the company's current precarious financial position—that it is replacing the luxurious XK8, by far the best-selling sports car in Jaguar's history.
On their own, the new XKs won't be enough to bring Jaguar back to financial health; the hope is that they will point the way to a new family of stylish, high-tech, lightweight, sporting yet luxurious cars.
