Jahangirnagar University (Bangla: জাহাঙ্গীরনগর বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is a public university in Bangladesh.
The university was established in 1970 by the Jahangirnagar Muslim University Ordinance, 1970 (later amended as Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973), During the two preceding years, it operated as a project, Its first Vice-Chancellor took up office on September 24, 1970.
The university stands on the Asian Highway, popularly known as the Dhaka-Aricha Road, and is only 32 kilometers away from the capital city.

Jahangirnagar University has shown its efficiency by holding the admission test for the academic year 2004-2005 very early.

A research study of enteroviruses in groundwater undertaken by Birmingham and Surrey Universities has shown viruses to be present in deep intergranular flow dominated aquifers in the UK and has also indicated that inorganic colloids may facilitate the migration (Tellam et al., 1999).
It is collaboration between the university of Birmingham and Surrey and the Public Health Laboratory South block, Royal Berkshire Hospital.The PhD project to be undertaken is concerned with colloid experimentation.
The specific aims of the PhD study are (i) to quantify colloid movement through the aquifer columns and (ii) to quantify virus movements in the presence of colloids through the aquifer column.

That the JU Vice Chancellor had declared that the students who were charged with rape and sex abuse would not get certificates.
