The next day, they worked their way through to create the now-classic "Jailhouse Rock" production number, one of pop/rock music's greatest and most iconic moments on film, a performance considered by many to be ahead of its time and the father of modern-day music videos.

Elvis’ third movie is next, and the rest of this disc concentrates on performances from the soundtrack session to the classic 1957 Presley flick “Jailhouse Rock”, recorded at Radio Recorders during April and May of 1957.
The second movie version of “Treat Me Nice” (take 13) follows, and this is a stronger take than the first movie version, featuring revised backing vocals from the Jordanaires, that work much better than their attempts on the first movie version.
The “Jailhouse Rock” single topped the charts in both the US and the UK in late 1957 and 1958 respectively, and was the first ever song to enter the UK charts at the No.1 position based on advance sales only.

Comedy Central: Movies - Jailhouse Rock - Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
If Jailhouse Rock isn't Elvis Presley's best movie, it's close enough to the top of the heap to be essential viewing for anyone interested in The King's legacy, and it's one of his few vehicles which really caught his raw, sexy energy and sneering charisma on film.
Playing an ex-con rock & roll singer, Elvis' role isn't much of a stretch here, but it also allows him to let his natural charm shine through, and the film's cynical portrait of the inner working of the music business certainly seems to agree with him.
Jailhouse Rock plays like a good, tough B-movie with some rockin' musical numbers thrown in, and it certainly serves Elvis and his talent far better than the glossier but empty-headed movies that dominated his post-Army career.

Trivia: Originally the choreographer, Alex Romero, created a dance for the song "Jailhouse Rock" that was in a style that was apropos for a more classically trained dancer than Elvis.
Romero realized that his plans for the number were never going to work, he asked Elvis how would he normally move to the song; thus, this is how Elvis became the uncredited choreographer for what could be considered his most famous dance number in all of his movies.
All the songs are good and the "Jailhouse Rock" number is just stunning--easily one of the best choreographed musical numbers ever caught on screen.

Pussycats Not Up To Scratch: Josie and the Pussycats Movie Review (NY Rock)
The history of rock-and-roll movies dates back almost as far as the genre of music itself.
From Elvis busting out of the slammer in 1957's Jailhouse Rock, to the tragic imagery of the Rolling Stones' 1970 documentary Gimmie Shelter, to the satirical "mockumentary" of 1984's This Is Spinal Tap, rock music and Hollywood have gone together like backseats, hot nights, and getting laid.
Despite discouraging circumstances, Josie (played by rocking Rachael Leigh Cook of She's All That fame) and the Pussycats manage to make the big time, all while resisting temptations that threaten their "friends first" motto.
