Topic: Jaimini

  Mimamsa
Jaimini also rejects a deity as the creator of the relation between word and meaning, saying that this relationship is innate.
It was the function of the Mimamsa school to solve these problems by providing principles from their investigation which would give guidance in the interpretation of Vedic texts for performing the sacrificial rituals.
The first surviving commentary on Jaimini is by Sabara in the fifth or sixth century CE, who developed Jaimini's arguments and also defined dharma more exactly.

Jaimini, who composed sutras about the 4th century BC, was critical of earlier Mimamsa authors, particularly of one Badari, to whom is attributed the view that the Vedic injunctions are meant to be obeyed without the expectation of benefits for oneself.
For both Jaimini and Shabara (3rd century), his chief commentator, performance of the Vedic sacrifices is conducive to the attainment of heaven; both emphasize that nothing is a duty unless it is instrumental to happiness in the long run.
Jaimini's central concern is dharma, which is defined as the desired object (artha), whose desirability is testified only by the injunctive statements of the scriptures (codana-laksano).

Jaimini is the disciple of Vyasa, and besides being a writer of various treatises and the Epic Jaimini Bharata, he is the famous author of Poorva Mimamsa Sastra, and these able aphorisms in Astrology called after his name as the JAIMINISUTRAS.
Jaimini, through his great sympathy and love for the people, framed these sutras and they have to be interpreted on certain principles which the Sanskrit writers have laid down for our guidance and education.
Jaimini uses the word Argala to mean a sort of obstruction or impediment for the free flow of planetary influences.

Jaimini astrology is a sub-set of Vedic astrology that provides a host of powerful techniques.
It is thought that sage Parashara asked his student Jaimini to research into this area of astrology, and that it was the sage Jaimini who fully developed these basic principles outlined by Parashara.

Jaimini is predominantly practiced in the Andhra Pradesh area of India, mostly as a somewhat secret tradition, but its governing principles are also discussed in detail in the encyclopedic compendium of astrological techniques, the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra.
Rao's texts go the furthest in explaining how the Jaimini dasa systems work, and are, in my opinion, the clearest exposition of Jaimini principles available in the West and I would recommend these for any one who wishes to build a foundation in and explore the basic structure of Jaimini astrology in greater depth.
Jaimini uses rasi mahadasas (sign mahadasas), in contrast to the graha (planetary) mahadasas used in Parasari astrology.

Jaimini is considered as the author of Jaimini Sutram, which is a system of astrology quite different from Parasara astrology.
In his translation of Jaimini Sutram, B.Suryanarain Rao (grandfather of Dr.B.V.Raman 1908-1998) states that Maharshi Jaimini was the disciple of Sage Vyasa and besides being a writer of other famous books, he is the famous author of Poorva Mimamsa.
If we have to accept this theory, we have to say that later publishers have included the account on Jaimini in the book of Maharshi Parasara leading to the confusion about the time when Jaimini lived.

This can serve as a secondary 'ascendant' according to Jaimini system (which in all fairness and to avoid some prevailing confusion on the jyotish scene is NOT an exclusive or different entity from the 'mainstream' Parashari system - which contains most of the so called Jaimini principles as well).
However, one must utilize the rashi-based Jaimini aspects (also described by Parashara) for best results in such a case to study interplanetary connectivity with these karakas.
Mixing Parashari aspects (e.g., Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th from its location) with arudha lagna considerations is not recommended by the experts.
