		Jair (Hebrew יאיר Ya'ir) was a man from Gilead (see also Manasseh), east of the River Jordan, who judged Israel for twenty-two years after the death of Tola.
		Jair was the son of Segub, the son of Hezron the Jew through the daughter of Makir (1 Chronicles 2).
		According to Judges 10:3-5, Jair had thirty sons, who rode thirty ass colts, and thirty 'cities' in Gilead which came to be known as Havoth-Jair.

		The Brazilian footballer Jair Da Rosa Pinto, "Jair" - as he was always known - who has died from a lung infection aged 84, was part of the dazzling inside-forward trio that seemed sure to win Brazil the world cup which it staged in 1950.
		Jair made the rounds of Brazilian clubs, playing for Flamengo and Vasco da Gama of Rio, Santos, the club which would be made famous by Pele, then the two Sao Paulo clubs, Sao Paolo and Palmeiras.
		The Italians categorised Jair as un fronzoliere (slingshot man), although whether this referred to his shooting or to the defence-splitting accuracy of his passing remains obscure.
