One superb thing about the design Jak and Daxter is that while the game is basically non-linear, completing certain tasks unlock other areas so you are softly pushed through the game while never feeling you’re on rails, giving the game a good flow and keeping a sense of exploration and adventure throughout.
Jak and Daxter is a massive quest that is highly entertaining throughout.

There are 16 total areas to explore in Jak 2, and the city acts as an overland map of sorts, revealing passageways and different routes to one of the areas waiting to be explored.
When Jak was imprisoned by Baron Praxis, he was exposed to all kinds of medical experiments, most of which involved dark eco (remember, the foul stuff that turned Daxter into that...thing?) As a result, Jak is no longer just a pre-teen-looking kid.

Jak has a wealth of moves at his disposal, most of which you'd expect from a platformer; things like acrobatic jumping, a few melee maneuvers, ledge grabbing and the like.
Jak II assimilates the trigger-happy attitude well enough, but if I wanted to run around and shoot things, Ratchet and Clank (and its outstanding sequel Going Commando) both do the same thing, and do it much better.
Jak II does have a few high points like the Crash Bandicoot "being chased by something dangerous and running towards the player" tribute level, and the graphics and draw distance are as sharp as ever, but the experience as a whole never solidified the way a great game's should.

Visually, Jak and Daxter runs at a nearly perfect 60 fps with the only exception being a few split second hitches when several special effects decorate the screen.
Jak, Daxter and the various baddies populating the levels are constructed of a good amount of nicely shaded polygons, although textures are used pretty sparingly.
Daxter is always hanging around Jak's neck or standing on his shoulder, but you primarily play as Jak.

Jak and Daxter’s quest is to seek the one person that holds the key to transforming Daxter back to his human-like form.
There are a variety of enemies to challenge Jak in the different lands like giant fish and sharks that are lurking in the ocean waiting for a meal, huge serpents pop out of the sand, and nasty snakes jump out of the trees trying to take a bite of ya.
Jak doesn’t say much, he is more of a stong and silent type but Daxter falls completely on the other side of the spectrum.

Jak can jump through trees and bushes, duck under archways, run between scaffolding, scale down cliffs, and hide behind rocks, all with the camera unobtrusively keeping the action in view.
Players can use the second joystick to maneuver the camera(rotating the camera or moving it closer to or farther from Jak), but we were concerned that some people may not want to manipulate the camera, and others, such as children, may not have the required sophistication or coordination.
