Jacob Peter Beckley (August 4, 1867 - June 25, 1918), nicknamed "Eagle Eye", was a Major League Baseball player at the turn of the 20th century.
During a career which spanned from 1888 to 1907, Jake played predominantly at first base for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1888-1889, 1891-1896), New York Giants (1896-1897), Cincinnati Reds (1897-1903) and St.
After his Major League career ended, Beckley became a player/manager for Kansas City in the American Association in 1908-1909, managed Bartlesville in the Western Association in 1910, and served as an umpire in the Federal League in 1913.

Which brings me to a question that will annoy some; nonetheless, why is Jake Beckley, with 318 win shares, ranked 52nd on Bill James' list of first baseman, when the twenty nine players directly ahead of him don't reach that mark?
I believe he is the lowest ranked position player in history with at least 300 win shares.
