Jake LaMotta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Giacobbe La Motta (born July 10, 1921), better known as Jake LaMotta, nicknamed The Bronx Bull, "The Raging Bull", is a former boxer who was world middleweight champion and whose life was as controversial outside the ring as it was inside it.
LaMotta met two challengers (Tiberio Mitri and Laurent Dauthuille) and beat them, and then he was challenged by Robinson on their rivalry's sixth fight.
LaMotta said during the hearing, perhaps not realizing that he was also harming his own image, that he had thrown the fight in 1948 with Billy Fox in exchange for a shot against world champion Cerdan.

Jake displays restraint when, in a moment of passion with Vickie, he stops, goes to the bathroom, and pours a large pitcher of ice-cold water down his drawers.
As much as Jake may fear Vickie for the possible damage that could be done to his career, a more convincing argument for his steadfastness is the large cross hanging over his bed, which is prominently displayed in almost every scene in the bedroom.

Jake was a special fighter, but how special really wouldn't become apparent until his second fight with Robinson.
Jake's strategy was the same for every fight with Robinson: LaMotta, 5' 8" tall to Robinson's 5' 11," was to constantly attack out of a low crouch forcing Robinson backward so he could not get set to unleash his deadly combinations.
Yet, when the chips were down, LaMotta could still call upon his amazing reslience and determination to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, as was demonstrated in his dramatic 15th round KO of leading contender Laurent Dauthuille on September 13, 1950.

Jake LaMotta was a professional fighter, with a chin of granite and heart bigger than a lion! A man who feared no fighter in the ring nor man on the street.
I was aware of the fighting Jake LaMotta did but never really watched him fight as I wasn't a fight buff at that age, I was in high school at the time, or perhaps grammar school, but still, the movie was amazing to me. Except for the parts where he was beating his wife.
That was disturbing, obviously Jake was a bull, a real horible person who deserved everything he got after he was champ, I mean the jail and the desertion of his family, but the acting DiNiro did was still amazing! How could you not agree with that?
