Jacob Grimm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After the expulsion of Jerome and the reinstalment of an elector, Grimm was appointed in 1813 secretary of legation, to accompany the Hessian minister to the headquarters of the allied army.
Although, by the introduction of the Code Napoleon into Westphalia, Grimm's legal studies were made practically useless, he never lost his interest in the scientific study of law and national institutions as the truest exponents of the life and character of a people.
Grimm's results have been greatly modified by the wider range of comparison and improved methods of investigation which now characterize linguistic science, and many of the questions raised by him will probably for ever remain obscure; but his book will always be one of the most fruitful and suggestive that has ever been written.

"Grimm Tales" director, Michael Swanson, said the Grimm's stories, like Cinderella, originally titled "Ashputtle," were written by the brothers more as folk tales than as the glittery fantasies meant to lull children into sweet dreams at bedtime they have become.
He said it's speculated that the brutal, gloomy world of the original collection of stories were sweetened by the brothers in the later 1850s when they realized their books were mainly being purchased to scare children into behaving.
For Grimm Tales, a set with a winding forest path was created which, through the help of environmental theater, will be used as additional seating for the audience.

Grimm's law. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
principle of relationships in Indo-European languages, first formulated by Jakob Grimm in 1822 and a continuing subject of interest and investigation to 20th-century linguists.
The first sound shift, affecting both English and German, was from the early phonetic positions documented in the ancient, or classical, Indo-European languages (Sanskrit, Greek, Latin) to those still evident in the Low German languages, including English; the second shift affected only the High German languages, e.g., standard German.
Grimm’s law shows that the classical voiceless stops (k,t,p) became voiceless aspirates (h,th,f) in English and mediae (h,d,f) in German, e.g., the initial sounds of Latin pater, English father, German Vater, and in the middle of Latin frater, English brother, German Bruder.

In real life, the Brothers Grimm were college professors who wrote the tales as part of a way to help Germany create a literary identity.
The thing is that they use Jakob’s knowledge of folklore to create situations they can solve in return for a hefty bounty.
But, the two realize they’ve gotten themselves into a whole mess of problems when they deduce that whatever is going on in the neighboring forest is not the same kind of trickery they’ve been using in their con, but that the forest is actually enchanted.

The scene in the old mill that establishes the adult Grimms, and Jakob’s first experiences in the tower, both prove exhilarating.
In the context of this peculiar story, it makes sense to use Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm as the heroes who defeat the film’s forces of evil, and the fact that these characters gleefully bear little resemblance to the real-life scholars may be a moot point.
It doesn't seem likely that people would think of this as a biopic when the previews clearly state that they encounter real magic, though one might be inclined to suspect it includes some parts of their real lives.
