Jakten Odin (Norwegian: The Search for Odin) is the project title of Thor Heyerdahl's last series of anthropological excavations, which took place in northern Europe.
His intention was to seek the origins of the Asas, following the trade set out by Snorri Sturluson in the Ynglinga saga, from the Black Sea and the river Don (former Tanakvisl) via Saxon homelands in northern Germany, Odense on Fyn, Denmark to Sigtuna, ancient Sweden.
The background for the project is described in a book, Jakten Odin—På sporet av vår fortid, written by Thor Heyerdahl himself and Per Lillieström (ISBN 82-7201-316-9).

Did Odin Exist? by Sergei V. Rjabchikov - English
In a Russian fairy-tale, Ivan Bykovich (Ivan, a Son of the Bull), a fiery (kalinovy in Russian) bridge at the Smorodina river is mentioned; in another variant of this fairy-tale, Burya-bogatyr' i Ivan korovy syn (The Hero Storm and Ivan, a Son of the Cow), a fiery bridge near the Black Sea is mentioned.
One can suppose that this Odin lived initially near the Black Sea and the Kuban river, then he was settled down near the Sea of Azov.
Afterwards this ruler and his warriors were forced out by the Roman and Bosporan troops from the area of the Don river, and then this group of the Proto-Slavs migrated to Scandinavia.

Was Odin a genuine human being?
Odin, or what is generally described as a very old, one-eyed man, seem to be a vital part of many legends beyond just the Asa myths.
Saxo tells the interesting story of how Odin in disgrace is forced to leave his position as a `God', to be replaced by another man who assumes the identity of Odin, only to later, having `payed his due', return and reclaim his position as Odin.
This is part of the story of Odins son Balder, in a quarrel with the swedish chieftain Höder (Hod) over the woman Nanna, which ends first with Balders death and later the revenge of Balder by Odins newborn son Bue.

A human Odin treated as a God in northern Europe was the hypothesis for Thor Heyerdahl in his last project, Jakten Odin (The search for Odin).
According to the poetic Edda, it was Odin that brought the runes to Scandinavia.
This might indicate a relevance in the genealogy of Snorri for Odin, tracing the ancestory to Thor that in turn is stemming from a Turkish people - that possibly even was the part of the Trojans that escaped to the north of the Black Sea when the Greeks destroyed Troy in 1250 BC.

Odin - Norwegian children's literature   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Author Ingvar Ambjørnsen (1956-) made his debut on the children’s literature market with the "detectives" Pelle and Proffen, in which the heroes solve social issue-related crimes such as industrial pollution and drug trafficking.
Social criticism is retained in these books, while romance was added to the mix in the girls’ series.
Two works that have also attracted attention abroad include Bjørn Sortland (1968-) and Lars Elling’s (1966-) "Anne’s Art Adventure" from 1993, a book about experiencing art, and Eirik Newth’s (1964-) "Jakten sannheten" (Hunt for the Truth) from 1996, a book about the history of science.

The Survival of the Fittest Ideas
I would guess the young Thor Heyerdahl had some interesting times on the playground trying to live up to his namesake.
As an adult, he certainly led an interesting life, though as his last major interest was trying to prove that the Norse All-father, the god Odin, was an actual king in Russia during the first century BCE, maybe he thought he was still back on the playground at the end.
An online biography describes Heyerdahl as a University of Oslo student specializing in zoology and geography when he and his bride spent a year living on Fatu Hiva Island in the Marquesas in 1937 and 1938.
