This combination was discovered entirely by accident by two drunken musicians, but has paved the way for two albums, of which Jaktens Tid is the second.
Jaktens Tid (the song) features some excellent rambling vocals that complement the normal ones perfectly, whilst Kitteldags sums up everything that is unique about this wonderful band in two short minutes.
Even so, this is not reflected in the music, Jaktens Tid is one of the most fun albums I have ever heard.

Well, during the successful touring run of Jaktens Tid, Somnium was alive and well and would probably be happy to have seen it happen.
Jaktens Tid is most definitely a masterpiece and one of the best Finnish metal albums in history, although some people, especially American and other critics who aren't familiar with Scandinavian traditions have bashed the album simply out of misunderstanding.
Yeah, this is fl metal, but the kind that isn't even supposed to be "evil" or "dark"; Jaktens Tid is supposed to raise your spirit, with good mood and songwriting drenched in alcohol.

The press release calls Jakens Tid "trollish hoedown metal," which is to say that Finntroll incorporates some of the folk- and polka-based musics indigenous to their native Finland into their Wagnerian death metal.
The fusion of styles apparently began as a drunken experiment, and it's hard to tell whether the resulting humor was intended or not.
Indeed, it is hard to listen to this Tolkein-esque death metal square dance without experiencing flashbacks to Spinal Tap's Stonehenge scene.

Jaktens Tid was Finntroll's first release with Century Media records in 2001.
Jaktens Tid has one of my favorite instrumental intro's with 'Krig.' Every time that I hear this, I have colorful thoughts that I am in a viking war ship ready to meet my northern brethren in battle.
The title track (Jaktens Tid) starts with a great vocal melodies and is very addicting all around.

Easily more talented than 90 percent of the so-called "real" fl metal poseurs, and infinitely more fun to listen than the sea of grim cold northern (read: horribly produced) Satanica that fills the genre.
I don't think there were any self-mutilations in the studio, or any photos taken at dusk in front of the local church in winter.
Jaktens Tid encompasses everything I truly enjoy about music.

Vredens Tid takes a few pages from their brethren in terms of melody and atmospheric parts, but Manegarm focuses a bit further on the metal side than does Finntroll or others.
Maybe the goofy, bizarre finale to Finntroll's Jaktens Tid has left me greedy, but I would have rather expected a bombastic, speedy, beer brawl of a song, illustrating the rush of trolls to escape from the rising sun rather than a simple, somber Viking chant.
Actually I have no idea what that final song on Jaktens Tid is about, as Swedish is a strange moon language from the planet Zansar, but that's what it sounds like.

Jaktens Tid was a good follow up for Midnattens Widunder.
We hear everything we heard before, but there are some new things such as native yoik singing done by Jonne of Korpiklaani/Shaman and some more acousticals this time around.

If Finntroll had wanted, they could have gone in a more raw direction and ended up not so very far from Nokturnal Mortum's Nechrist in terms of their sound; though they'd never come close to capturing Nokturnal Mortem's evil in their music.
Sadly they've gone the opposite route with Jaktens Tid; turning up the commercial appeal and becoming more of a novelty band.
I can see this CD being sold in the same Scandinavian tourist shops that are stacked with cute little plastic trolls, postcards and overpriced stainless steel sword-like objects.

To somewhat lesser extent this also goes for Finntroll's "Jaktens Tid" (you knew there had to be a reason for all these personal revelations, right?).
There is definitely a lot of folk influences in the music, including acoustic instruments and maybe an, um, 'ethnic' instrument here or there.
"Jaktens Tid" kicks off with an atmospheric intro, followed by a bunch of great tracks, then rounded off by an outro.

For those of you who don’t know, Finntroll is a Finnish band, although they sing in Swedish, playing death metal infused with traditional Finnish polka, or humppa, and some folk-elements.
Lately, fusions and crossovers have been more and more popular in the metal-world, spawning styles like metalcore, jazzcore, rapcore, and what have you, but this is something beyond that.
The polka-influences are, however, more common, and it doesn’t really appeal to me. While it at times can sound like pretty pompous music, like an epic fl metal sort of thing, the polka, and the lyrics (providing you can understand them) detracts from any notion of seriousness that one may have regarding this band.

Their album Jaktens Tid has livened up my drawing sessions lately - it's at the same time hilariously over the top and really very good musically.
The songs, in Swedish, are mostly about fantasy subjects, particullarly trolls.
