A new political subdivision was formed in 1853 consisting of the towns of Antipolo, Boso-Boso, Cainta, and Taytay from Tondo and the towns of Morong, Baras, Tanay, Palilla, Angono, Binangonan and Jalajala from La Laguna.
Rizal Province was officially and legally created by virtue of Act No. 310 by the Philippine Commission.

Among the ongoing foreign-assisted projects in the lake are the sustainable development of the Laguna de Bay environment, with a technical assistance grant from the Netherlands, and the Laguna de Bay Environment and Water Resources Management Project, with an institutional building technical assistance grant from the World Bank-Japan Fund.
During the boat ride to Jalajala, Cataquiz briefed the President on their plans to enter into collaboration with the private sector in converting the waters of the Laguna de Bay as a raw water source for Metro Manila and its adjoining provinces.
