While Kishan Singh and his companions carried on their campaign in Jalandhar district, with frequent incursions into the villages of Ambala district and Knpurthala state, Karam Singh of Daulatpur, who had organized a similar band of extremist Sikhs, worked in Hoshiarpur district.
KISHAN SINGH GARGAJJ (1886-1926), founder of the Babar Akali movement, was the only son of Fateh Singh of Baring, a village in Jalandhar district in the Punjab.

Jalandhar: Sudesh Kumari, 35, a resident of a village in Talwara area of Hoshiarpur district, was run over and killed by a train between the Bhogpur-Kala Bakra on the Jalandhar-Pathankot section yesterday, police sources said today.

The west border of the district touches Jalandhar, east border touches with RoopNagar (Ropar) district, the northern border of the district meets with district Hoshiarpur and in south it touches with Ludhiana (known as the Manchester of India) and Kapurthala District.
The Nawanshahr district is one of the smaller districts of Punjab and is having an area of 125833 hectares consisting of population of 586637 as per 2001 census (provisional).
