James Allen's Girls' School - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
James Allen's Girls' School, or JAGS, is a private single-sex school situated in Dulwich, south-east London.
It was founded by a Master of Dulwich College, James Allen, in 1741, as a free reading school for the local poor.
It is believed that Searle drew inspiration for the costumes for his St Trinians girls from the gym-slips worn by JAGS girls.

Together with Dulwich College and James Allen's Girls' School, Alleyn's School is a direct descendant of Edward Alleyn's original foundation and was established as a boys' school in 1882.
Alleyn's became a public school with the election of the Headmaster to the Headmasters' Conference (HMC) in 1919.
In 1992 a Junior School was opened for 200 boys and girls aged from 4 to 10.

The school is the antithesis of the Enid Blyton-type posh girls' boarding school, in that its pupils are wicked (and often well-armed).
It is reputed that the gym-slip style of dress worn by the girls was closely modelled on the uniform of the school that Searle's daughter Kate attended, JAGS in Dulwich.
The school became embroiled in a number of shady enterprises, thanks mainly to Flash, and, as a result, was always threatened with closure by the Ministry of Education.

We are aware that certain primary schools in Birmingham will have higher admission numbers in 1992 than in 1991 as a result of this requirement, by virtue of the fact that proposals by Birmingham LEA to reduce the standard numbers for these schools have been rejected by my right hon.
The proposals to reduce the standard numbers at these schools were rejected in each case either because the school is already accommodating the total number of pupils implied by the existing standard number or because the standard number has been set on the basis of a simple assessment of the school's physical capacity.

As in LEA schools, individual governors of self-governing schools are not normally personally liable for actions and decisions of the governing body.
Members of governing bodies of self -governing schools are required by their instrument of government to declare any pecuniary interest, direct or indirect, in any matter which is to be considered at a governing body meeting.
The articles of government of a self-governing school provide that a copy of each of the instruments and articles of government, the prospectus, the governors' annual report, the audited accounts for the previous school year and non-confidential parts of the minutes of meetings of the governing body must be made available for public inspection.

As its introduction noted, it was intended as "a service for the librarian building similar collections, the scholar working in popular culture or children's literature, and the collector attempting to acquire a complete series." It encompassed series published between 1900 and 1975, including nineteenth-century series that continued into the twentieth century.
There is still a need for a more comprehensive bibliography of nineteenth-century series, one encompassing boys', girls', and miscellaneous series, for several of the girls' series were companion series to ones for boys.
