Brydges commissioned Dahl to paint this picture of himself dressed in ermine robes and with his ducal coronet to celebrate his elevation to the peerage.

References to James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos revealed that this man, who's family owned Shaw House from 1728 until 1751, was responsible for many charitable acts in the town of Newbury.
Keen not to waste all of their plans, and also in agreement that the naming - or branding - of their Troop was a good idea, it was decided that the single Troop should assume its name anyway.
