James E. Ingraham, a businessman and the president of a railroad, was the second explorer Hugh Willoughby, a winter visitor in Florida, pursuing a quest to satisfy his own curiosity, was the third explorer.
Ingraham and Loses left with Harney on the afternoon of the fourth riding in the native's dugout.

James Edmundson Ingraham, born on November 18, 1850, graduated from Racine College in Wisconsin and became a railroad engineer.
Ingraham was a member of the survey party that crossed the Everglades from Fort Myers to Miami in March 1892 in search of a possible railroad route for Henry B. Plant's railroad system.
In 1897, Ingraham was made the third vice-president of the Florida East Coast Railway Company and in 1910 was made its vice-president.

 The Birth of Miami
Ingraham headed the railroad’s land department, which had the responsibility for securing land for the railroad, surveying and laying out the new towns that sprang up on the newly granted railroad lands, and attracting settlers and farmers to these lands.
Ingraham was president of the South Florida Railroad when Plant extended the train to Orlando and later to Tampa.
Ingraham was hired away from Plant by Flagler in 1892.
