James Edward Quigley was born in the village of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada on October 15, 1855.
Because Quigley was the most public supporter of the labor movement in Buffalo, he was quick to disassociate the movement from so many of its socialist and anarchist members, who as a result of their association with labor interests, brought considerable scrutiny on all those associated with the unions, especially in Buffalo.
