	James Gambier, 1802-1804
		James Gambier was born on October 13, 1756 on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas, son of John Gambier, lieutenant-governor of the Bahamas.
		In 1802, Gambier was appointed governor and commander-in-chief of Newfoundland.
		Gambier also pressed for permanent officials to be stationed on the island, and argued for a local legislature.

		GAMBIER, James, admiral, born in the Bahama islands, 13 October, 1756; died in Iver, near Uxbridge, England, 19 April, 1833.
		His ancestors were French Protestants, who were expatriated by the revocation of the edict of Nantes, and his father was lieutenant governor of the Bahamas.
		James entered the navy at an early age and obtained the rank of post-captain in 1778.

		Their efforts during the dark of night in waters hiding enemy submarines to rescue the survivors of the USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73), USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413), USS Johnston (DD-413), and USS Hoel (DD-533) were some of the most courageous efforts of the war at sea.

	Political Career - Thomas Cochrane, 10th Earl Of Dundonald
		Cochrane pursued a very active politics career, serving as Member of Parliament for Honiton from 1806 to 1807 and for Westminster from 1807 to 1815, and campaigning for parliamentary reform in Britain, being allied with such Radicals (UK) as William Cobbett and Henry Hunt.
		His outspoken criticism of the conduct of the war and the corruption in the Navy made him powerful enemies in the government, and his criticism of Admiral James Gambier conduct in the Battle of the Basque Roads (so severe as to require a court-martial of Gambier) made him enemies in the Admiralty.
		Perhaps as a consequence, Cochrane was tried and convicted as a conspirator in a Stock Exchange fraud in 1814 although he was almost certainly innocent.
