James Harris (born 1947) and played college football for the Grambling State University Tigers from 1965 to 1968.
Under the guidance of head coach Eddie Robinson (football's winningest coach) Grambling won or shared all four SWAC titles while Harris was a player and he was named MVP of the 1967 Orange Blossum Classic.
He was the first fl player to start a football season as quarterback for a professional American football team in the modern era, doing so in 1969 for the American Football League's Buffalo Bills against the Super Bowl Champion New York Jets.

Aaron Harris, 20, a 6-foot, 225-pound redshirt freshman linebacker from TSU, was charged early Sunday morning by Vanderbilt campus police with two counts of assault, public intoxication, underage consumption of alcohol, evading arrest and resisting arrest after striking a pair of concert-goers on the Alumni Lawn.
The report also said Harris, who admitted to drinking five beers and two shots of liquor, ran two blocks after evading Vanderbilt police, who were trying to detain him on the assault charges.
