James Henderson Blount, 1837-1903, American public official, b.
Jones co., Ga. U.S. Representative from Georgia (1873-93), he was chosen by President Cleveland as a special commissioner to the Hawaiian Islands in 1893.
After investigation, Blount declared against the provisional government, and in consequence Cleveland withdrew the treaty of annexation concluded with that government.

Born in Jones County in 1837, James Henderson Blount graduated from the University of Georgia in 1858, studied law, and was admitted to the Georgia bar in Macon before the Civil War.
Blount's primary claim to national distinction came in his investigation of the Hawaiian Revolution of 1893.
Blount and his wife arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii, in late March and stayed until early August.

James Henderson Blount (September 12, 1837-March 8, 1903), an American statesman, served in the United States Congress representing the sixth district of Georgia from 1873 to 1893.
He was appointed by President of the United States Grover Cleveland to be the United States Department of State Minister to Hawai'i with the mission of investigating the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai'i and the administration of Queen Lili'uokalani.
Blount is buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.

Blount's first wife died between 27 Sept. 1670, when she was a witness in court, and 13 June 1683, by which time Blount's second marriage had taken place.
Blount who was a very great sharer in that loss, and was as strongly persuaded as any man that ye people in ye canoe were indeed murdered and himself and family was in as great danger as any in the Government.
The Blount family moved to Florida in 1835 and are shown on the 1840 census of Columbia County, and the 1850 census of Hamilton County.

James Chandler died in 1837 in Haywood Co, NC, leaving Mary and one son (John).

 Henderson Genealogy - North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia
My Henderson line begins with James Henderson, born ca 1790/1800 in NC somewhere (I suspect Rutherford Co, NC, but can't prove it yet).
I don't know what county though, but I suspect it was in eastern TN, such as McMinn, Blount, etc. They moved to Union Co, GA before 1840, and James died there in the 1840's.
Their son Thomas M. Henderson (1834-1909) married Margaret E. Stewart in 1857 Union Co, GA. Their daughter Ibiline Henderson (1863-1934) married Noah Washington Gilbert in 1881 Union Co, GA. They were my Great Great Grandparents.

An investigation established by President Cleveland was conducted by former Congressman James Henderson Blount, and concluded, "United States diplomatic and military representatives had abused their authority and were responsible for the change in government."
One group flourished at expense of the other and now the few Hawaiians that survive, according the the 2000 US census, have economic, health, and general living standards that are comparable to those in a third world country.
Unfortunately, Blount failed to interview many of the participants in the revolt and he failed to swear in any of the witnesses.

Dellinger and Sutton murdered Griffin on Feb. 21, 1992, in Blount County and then, when his sister Connie Branam went to look for him, they killed her the next day in Sevier County.
